The Department of Chemistry organised a workshop on "Techniques in Phytochemistry: Plant Extraction, TLC & Column Chromatography" for BSc Chemistry project students under the DBT STAR College Scheme. The resource person, Dr. K. Suresh Babu, Chief Scientist, CSIR-IICT, emphasised the role of these techniques in drug discovery, herbal product standardisation and natural product research, extraction of piperine from pepper using soxhlet apparatus and purification by column chromatography.

The Department of Microbiology organised a two-day faculty development program and workshop on cell culture techniques under the DBT Star College scheme. The resource person for the workshop Dr. Ramesh Kande, founder and CEO, MicroN Life Sciences enlightened the participants with his expertise. Cell culture, a laboratory technique to grow and maintain cells outside their natural environment, is vital in microbiology, biotechnology, immunology, molecular biology, pharmacology, and biomedical research. Faculty from various colleges participated enthusiastically and expressed a high level of learning.

The Department of Commerce and the COFEE Club organised a “Project Blueprint Workshop on Crafting Objectives, Drafting Questionnaire and Adapting Robust Methodology for Academic Projects." The workshop was attended by students, faculty and researchers from Commerce and Management disciplines from four colleges in Hyderabad. The primary resource person was Prof. K. V. Ramana Murthy, Principal, Vijayanagar College of Commerce, who focused on helping students define clear SMART objectives and narrow the scope of their academic projects. Faculty from the department of Commerce, Dr Shiny Rajan, Associate Professor & PG Coordinator, and Dr Manisha Kulkarni, Assistant Professor, explained the primary and secondary data analysis. The participants expressed that the workshop gave a clear roadmap to move from a vague idea to a structured project blueprint.

A total of 24 students and 3 faculty members participated in the visit. The students were assisted by Dr. Paramesh, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, Osmania University, in the identification and collection of wild medicinal plants. The field trip provided valuable practical exposure to plant diversity and medicinal plant identification in their natural habitat.

The Department of Computer Science organised a two-day workshop on "Embedded Systems and IoT for Data Analytics," under the DBT STAR College scheme for students of BSc MSCS and MPCS. The workshop equipped students with valuable knowledge of embedded systems, IoT concepts, and data analytics applications. Students gained practical skills through hands-on sessions, including interfacing sensors, programming microcontrollers, and collecting and analysing IoT-generated data. The workshop enhanced their technical competence, problem-solving abilities, and understanding of real-world IoT applications, preparing them for future academic and industry opportunities.

World Social Media Day

The Department of Mass Communication and Journalism commemorated World Social Media Day on June 30 with a series of engaging academic and interactive activities. The celebration featured a Social Media Audit Survey and presentation of its findings, a recreation of a classic social media trend, the signing of an MoU with Kathanika Media, an insightful guest lecture, and a photo booth. The event highlighted the evolving role of social media in communication while fostering learning, collaboration, and creativity.

It was a pleasure to welcome Dr. Joseph Bolin, Dean, Collinsworth School of Performing Arts, California Baptist University, along with Mr. Komal Swaroop, Director, Campus Harbor Consulting Pvt. Ltd., to St. Francis College for Women.

It was a pleasure to welcome Dr. Joseph Bolin, Dean, Collinsworth School of Performing Arts, California Baptist University, along with Mr. Komal Swaroop, Director, Campus Harbor Consulting Pvt. Ltd., to St. Francis College for Women. They met the Principal, Prof. Uma Joseph, for a meaningful discussion on strengthening academic collaboration and exploring future opportunities for global engagement. They also visited the American Corner, housed on our campus, and appreciated its role in promoting learning, cultural exchange, and access to global resources. St. Francis College and California Baptist University share a long-standing partnership, and this visit further reaffirmed our mutual commitment to fostering international academic collaboration and enriching educational experiences for our students.

The Department of Mass Communication and Journalism organised an engaging session under its “Chat with Alumna” Guest Lecture Series titled “Inside the Newsroom: Experiences from a Young Journalist’s Journey.” The guest speaker for the session was Amisha Rajani, an alumna of the department and a journalist with The Times of India. The session provided students with a first-hand perspective on the world of journalism and its practices, attempting to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry realities.

The Department of Computer Science organised ‘CONNECT 9.0 – Peer-Powered IoT Bootcamp: Learn, Build, and Innovate’ for the students of M.Sc. Computer Science (AI & ML) II Year from 22nd June to 24th June 2026. The three-day bootcamp provided students with practical exposure to the fundamentals of the Internet of Things (IoT) through hands-on learning, project building, and peer-to-peer knowledge sharing.

St. Francis College for Women, Begumpet, in collaboration with the United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia, hosted a three-day International Leadership Program on “Leadership in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” from June 18 to 20. The program brought together nearly 50 delegates from 12 higher education institutions across India to explore the role of AI in shaping the future of higher education. The program concluded with active participation from delegates, who appreciated the initiative for fostering dialogue, innovation, and responsible leadership in the digital age.

The magazine was officially released by the Principal, Prof. Uma Joseph along with Vice Principal Dr. Sr. Sherly.
