Capacity Building

 

The highly skilled faculty members of the department have been training students and staff from other colleges in plant tissue culture techniques.The department houses a well-equipped Tissue culture lab, Green and poly houses for growing sterile and healthy plants. We have successfully propagated Robusta variety of banana plants in invitro condition and they have been transferred to green houses for hardening.As a part of consultancy service,the department is planning to sell these healthy plants to encourage people to go for ecofriendly, chemical free plants

  • Two-day National Workshop on “Bioinformatics in Homology modeling and Molecular Docking” by Dr.G.P.L.Jayashree, Asst. Professor, Department of Zoology, Telangana, Koti, Hyderabad, Telangana on 10th and 11th February 2023 with 6 staff and 91 student participation.
  • Two day workshop on “Omics based approach to identify novel diagnostic markers for pathogenic diseases” by Mrs. K. Geethanjali, Assistant Professor, Dept of Biotechnology, Government Degree College, Gajwel, Siddipet District, Telangana held on 27th & 28th January 2022 with 4 staff and 405 student participation.
  • The three day National workshop on ‘Recent trends in Bioinformatics for Exploratory Analysis of Biological Data’ was organized by the life science departments of St. Francis College for Women from 16th to 18th January, 2020.
  • Five day National workshop on ‘Organic production of Ornamental and Vegetable crops’ in collaboration with Agri Biotech Foundation from 19th to 23rdAugust 2019 at St.Francis Degree College.

  • Webinar on “Therapeutic applications of stem cells” by Dr. B.Kiran Kumar, Senior Scientist, CSIR-CCMB, Hyderabad on 4th September 2021 with 4 staff and 165 student participation.
  • Webinar on “Role of crop improvement in food security” by Dr.Sobhan B Sajja, Senior Scientist and Crop Improvement Operations Team Lead, ICRISAT, Telangana on 23 rd April 2021.
  • Webinar on “Stem cells in regenerative medicine: A perspective” by Dr.Chaturvedula B.Tripura, Senior Scientist, CSIR,CCMB, Telangana on 7 th May 2021.
  • Webinar on "Molecular Diagnostics in Detection of Animal Disease Causing Pathogens" on 25th May 2020 at 12:00pm.The resource person was Dr. Settypalli T. Bharani Kumar from International Atomic Energy Agency, Seibersdorf, Vienna, Austria.
  • A career guidance talk was organizedon 16th August 2018 for B.Sc Biotechnology Students, where the research scholars from CCMB gave an insight about their research work in the institute and also motivated the students to pursue career in life sciences.
  • The final year students of Biotechnology were taken to attend a one day conference seminar entitled “Nanobio3” , organized at and by the University of Hyderabad on 20th September 2018.
  • Students of BSc final year participated in a seminar organized by CDFD on 3rd October 2018. The speaker Dr. Balasubramanian, Director LVPEI spoke on about the future in biotechnology.

  • Guest lecture on “Non-coding RNA’s and Cancer therapeutics” by Dr. A. Sandhya, Assistant Professor, Department of Genetics, Osmania University, Hyderabad on 24th August 2022 with 5 staff and 250 student participation.
  • Guest lecture on “Wild life forensics” by Dr. Ajay Gaur, Principal Scientist at LaCONES on 14th February 2020.
  • Guest lecture on ‘Genetic Counseling’ by Ms.Vaishnavi Suresh, Level-1 certified genetic counselor from Anderson Clinical Genetics on 28th January 2020.<

  • A guest talk was organized by the department of Biotechnology in collaboration with Accumen connect on 26th June 2018 for B.Sc Biotechnology final year students.
