Department of Mass Communication
The department of mass communication housed in the Sister Maria Franco Multimedia Centre, is fully equipped with state of the art equipments and strives to provide Industry oriented practical knowledge and hands-on experiences to its students in all aspects of mainstream and digital media.
The Department of Mass Communication was established in 1998 and the Masters program became fully functional in 2011. Initially the BA mass communication programme focused on print and electronic media but from 2016 onwards with the introduction of the CBCS structure new media components were included to meet the current media industry requirements. The Department housed in the Sister Maria Franco Multimedia Centre, is fully equipped with audio-video teaching aids and a Mass Communication lab-cum-audio and TV studio. The Centre has state-of-the-art sound proof Television Studio along with a Green Room with Teleprompter to learn production skills and techniques. It boasts of two computer laboratories with internet connectivity and is equipped with Sony Video Camera, Canon 5D Mark 3 Camera and video editing softwares (Adobe Premier & Final Cut Pro). It also consists of a modern Photo-lab with Canon DSLR cameras and a well-equipped audio-studio with audio-mixer, editing softwares with sophisticated microphones. It brings out the Lab Journal ‘Campus Herald’ from the Production Facility (Adobe InDesign software). The Centre also has a Canon Digital Photocopier Machine, Apple Mac Systems, Gimbal for DSLR Camera stabilization to get amazing action camera footages well as Convergence lab with LED, News Monitoring TV and a Department level Library of books and films.
Objectives
- Prepare graduates for careers connected to News Papers, TV, Advertising, Public Relations, New Media, Radio and various media industries
- Familiarize students with E-Learning, Event Management, Corporate Communications, Video Editing and Film Direction
- Provide a good grounding in the best practice of Journalism and Mass Communication and make them industry ready
- To develop multi-tasking skills required in the dynamic multi-media and convergence environment
