The Department of English Language and Literature has been a trend setting department since its inception in 1959. The department has been striving relentlessly to improve not just the communication skills of the students, but also to make them proficient with all aspects of Personality Development that would facilitate a successful career and professional life.Literature is offered as a part of the BA Programmes – with History, Psychology, Mass Communication, Social Management and Political Science.
The department has been instrumental in providing the students with multiple opportunities to showcase their talents and skills in literary, cultural and theatrical domains, apart from excelling in Academics. The department ensures an ambience that facilitates the students to face the challenges of the contemporary job market and the world of competitive exams, with confidence and competence.La Fiesta, the club of the department organises regular events, Inter/ Intra collegiate competitions, workshops providing the much needed exposure to the students, essential for a healthy and competent outlook. The faculty members work, not only as a team, but also in their individual capacity to upgrade and develop the department, fully conscious of the growing demands of the contemporary Academia.
Language is not a genetic gift, it is a social gift. Learning a new language is becoming a member of a club – of the community of speakers of that language.
Objectives of the Department
- To impart the language skills (LSRW) for students at different levels, facilitating fluency and ease in communication.
- To encourage reading/writing skills of the students that would make them competent in facing all career based exams.
- To enable students identify, appreciate and analyse the works of distinct writers and the trends of the age through the study of selected texts of Literature .
- To enable the young learners evolve as more responsible individuals, with a sense of integrity and commitment towards the institution/society they are part of.
