Achievements

 

World environment is now experiencing the greatest threat in all the way. We are in the need of environmentalists with the attitude of environmentalism to act and solve the environmental problems. Department of Environmental Studies organizes seminars/workshops/guest lectures to the students and faculty related to different environmental issues where they can be sensitized with their observation related to different issues and act accordingly. Following are the glimpses of our departmental activities conducted for the students in the recent past.

Seminars and workshops

Some of the guest lectures and seminars organized by the Department were as follows

  • “Conserve and restore the wetlands for pure water supply, ecosystem resilience and sustainable livelihood”, Guest lecture by Dr. Seshikala Durisetty, Assistant Professor, OU, Hyderabad, for students.
  • Webinar on Sustainable foods for Healthy People and Healthy Planet by Mr. Pradeep Yarra, an Outreach Coordinator at Eat Kind India Campaign in the Farm Animal Protection Department, at Humane Society International-India, for students and faculty.
Activities

Some of the activities that took place this year are as follows

  • Students were revived the bottle garden with their creative skills. They were collected used plastic bottles and made different shapes as a self-watering plant holder. They then planted the saplings of ornamental plants of different according to their interest and hung them up with the help of jute ropes.
  • Video clips on ecofriendly product making and uploading it on YouTube.
  • Digital and handmade poster making on different environmental issues.
  • Case Studies, group field visits, and interviewing done by students to explore the causes and consequences of present condition of environmental degradation.
  • The department closely collaborated with Spectrum and Prakriti clubs of the college
  • Organic farming along with the Botany Department, to inculcate in students an interest in the subject, and to make them aware of the importance of organic farming
  • Group projects on various topics like organic farming, home composting, rain water harvesting and green business were taken up. Students learned to segregate wastes and do composting
  • B.M.S. students did a project in which they made an Environmental Management Plan for our college. They did an extensive survey of all the college’s resources, like water, energy and waste, and made suggestions and plans to manage them efficiently
Departmental and Intercollegiate Competitions
  • National level intercollegiate competitions were held on the theme of World Wetland Day, 2021 to make the students to be aware of heritage and importance of wetlands and their sustainability. Essay writing, Handmade poster making, Slogan Writing, Selfie with wetland is part of this competition.
  • Students were participated enthusiastically in a spot debate competition World Water Day 2021 and expressed their ideas and solutions related to fresh water scarcity and water conservation.
Field Trips
  • Department organized a virtual field trip to Solar Power plant and Lake biodiversity located in Dakoor village, Andole (M), Sanga Reddy(D) on November 24th 2020 with the help of resource person Mr. Vamsi Krishna, founder and CEO of Active Discovery Campus, Chevella.
Prakriti Club

Prakriti, which simply means ‘nature’, is the nature or the green club of the college. It truly believes that we should all convey the wisdom that we have to one and all, and to show our love for Mother Earth. It works towards creating awareness about the global environmental concerns among the students, staff and society by creating a galore of activities and events.

  • Conducted National level competitions on the observance of Earth Day 2021in the name of “Jour de La Terre” for the students, teaching and nonteaching in the events of Instagram reels, face painting, quiz, meme making, poetry recitation, photography, best out of waste, quote making.
  • In commemoration of National Endangered Species Day and International Day of Biological Diversity students of Environmental Studies made a virtual placard show video to show the gratitude towards wildlife and to bring awareness about critically endangered, endangered and some more threatened species of our India.
  • Plant a sapling activity video done on Environmental Day.
  • Pledge making activity video on ecofriendly practices.
  • Roleplay on environmental movements.
  • Prakriti Club worked on catalogue, “SAFAR - The Journey Until a Better Tomorrow”. Through this catalogue, it brought you the work done by Eco Warriors, who have contributed towards environmental awareness through various activities and events. These events were observed in accordance with the important environmental days which were marked by the department. It also comprises the glimpses of the virtual events such as activities, guest lectures, webinars, debates, and competitions that were conducted at departmental, college and inter-college levels during the academic year 2020-2021
