Capacity Building

 

The department has made remarkable strides during the past 60 years and is committed to continue working hard for excellence in Science. Darwin virtual lab is the new initiative of the department to provide students a chance to perform experiments using the internet and visual aids, deepen understanding, and provide the necessary practical skills to young minds. A Semi Planted Fresh water Aquarium was installed in the college lobby by Zoology Department for providing practical knowledge about Aquarium Fish Keeping, a skill based open elective offered by the Department. A butterfly park was set up in the college campus.

Seminars and Workshops
  • A Guest lecture was organized on “Animal Migration and Flight Adaptation in Insects and Birds” by Prof. N. Chari., Retd, Consultant NDRF on 30th July, 2018.
     

 

  • Guest Lecture organised for the students of Zoology by Dr. Tina Fernandez on Neuro Cognitive Diseases and Alzheimer’s on 17th September 2019.
     

 

  • Department of Zoology organized a field trip to Institute of Genetics and Hospital for Genetic Diseases and a Guest lecture by Dr. M. L. N Deepika in the Institute was arranged for the students of Zoology on Genetic Disorders and Genetic Counseling on 24th January 2020.
     

 

  • A Field trip was organized for the students of Zoology to Nehru Zoological Park to Study and prepare an Animal Album for skill test on 14th September 2019.
     

 

  • The Department of Zoology had organized a field visit to Laboratory for the Conservation of Endangered Species (LaCONES), Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Attapur for the B.Sc. Animal behavior IDE students of III A, C, F and N on 21st January 2020. A guest lecture was given by Dr. Anuradha Reddy on Wildlife Conservation and habitat management. The students had a great learning experience interacting with her who encouraged them to take part in the conserving our biodiversity.
     

 

  • Dr. Jyothi Rani organized A Seminar on Human Values on the Topic “Leadership skills” by Global Leadership Summit Team for all the Final Year students of B.A, B.Com, BMS, B.Voc in the Auditorium of St. Francis college on 16th Jan, 2020
     

 

  • A Field trip was organized for the students of Zoology between 15th- 21st November 2018 to Delhi, Corbett & Nainital.
     

 

  • A Field trip was organized for the students of B.Sc. III A, C, F and N (Animal behavior IDE students) on 6th February 2019 to Pocharam Willdlife Sanctuary.
     

 

  • The Department of Zoology organized a Webinar on “How Nature Responds to Corona Virus”on 21st May 2020 by Aishwarya Muralidhar, an Environmental Educator and Behavioural Ecologist based in Taranaki, New Zealand.
     

 

  • The Department organized A National Workshop on “Recent Trends in Bioinformatics for exploratory Analysis of Biological Data” on 16th to 18th Jan 2020.
  • As a part of social outreach program around 37 students of B.Sc 2A BZC along with Class Mentor Dr. Jyothi Rani visited “Sannihitha” – Center for Women and Girl children soceity, located at Kalasiguda, near parklane Secunderabad on 5th December,2019. The students distributed stationary, snacks and provide one meal for 40 children. They were generous to provide bus passes for 6 high school children. The day spent was satisfactory as students felt they could do something for the unfortunate and underprivileged children.
     
  • As a part of the Annual Social Outreach programme, the students of B.Sc. I A (BZC) and B.Sc. III A (BZC and BTZC) along with their Class Mentors Ms. S. Sravanthi, Dr. Basanthi and Ms. X. Sheila Merlin had visited the Special Education Center for Mentally Handicapped, Institute of Genetic and Hospital for Genetic Diseases, Ameerpet on 5th December 2019. The students had a joyful experience in spreading the joy of Christmas amongst the children and spent quality time with them.
