Capacity Building

 

  • Online Campus Radio: On January 10, 2014 under the able guidance of Mr Daniel Kelly, a full bright Scholar and visiting Professor from Wisconsin University started the first-ever online College Radio for the students named as `Francis Bol’. Since then every year students produce good number of radio programmes online for students of this college and also for outsiders. This is one of the major achievements as there is a huge fan club from other colleges listening to the radio programmes.
  • Campus Herald is a tabloid-sized newspaper initiated by the Dept. of Mass Communication since 2014. A synthesis of theory and practical knowledge, this project brings the students of Mass Communication face-to-face with the life of a journalist in the real world—giving an exposure to reporting, writing, editing, designing and also to the related works of advertising and printing. The publication focuses on events in the campus and taps into the voices and talent of budding writers and designers among the students. As of December 2019, Campus Herald is published online on the SFC website with only a few copies being printed
  • The department of Mass Communication organizes every year various innovative and attractive activities to enhance creative skills among students. The elected members from the department club ‘COMMUNIS’ will take responsibility to arrange co-curricular and extra-curricularactivities as part of club work. One of the most popular intercollegiate event organized by the club every year is ‘Media Sphere’a Media fest. Mass Communication students from undergraduate to post graduate take very active participation in this event by organizing film fests, dance competitions, ad zap’s, Poster making competitions and many more. As part of the fest most popular film personalities, media professionals are invited to interact and entertain students. This is one of the most popular and success event in and outside the college.
  • Francis Memoirs’, the first Newsletter which is based on the theme ‘History of all departments across College’, portraying a glimpse into the journey of all the departments since their inception, milestones and achievements from their glorious past, was launched on October 12, 2018,
  • PR Campaign: As an initiation of the Dept. of Mass Communication, students of BA final year organise a Campaign aimed at its on-campus publics as part of their DSE, Public Relations. Recognising the need to go beyond the theory of what a campaign means or what it means to change an attitude, since 2017, this project helps students build and enhance planning, organisational and communication skills. This is achieved through undertaking awareness-creation and education activities on trending issues. The Campaign for 2017 revolved around women taking a stand for women titled 'HerForHer', 'The Francis Project' – A campaign to save the earth (2018), and 'Shield' – A campaign on women's safety (2019). Students are required to plan and to use the various tools of Public Relations to bring their campaign to life.

  • Dr. K. Anitha Participated in Two-day National Conference on 'Gender identity and changing news paradigms’ wrote and presented a paper on “Role of Media in Gender Senitization” held at Krishtu Jayanthi College, Bangaluru on 19th and 20th February 2019
  • Participated in one day seminar on ‘Outcome Based Education ‘ on 15th February 2019 organized by IQAC, St.Francis College for Women.
  • Participated in One day Nation Seminar on ‘Intellectual Property Rights-Opportunities and Challenges for Higher Education Institutuions” organized by St. Francis College for Women, Hyderabad on 9th March, 2019.
  • A Guest Lecture was organized for M.A I students on February 21, 2018 on “The Role of Media in Development Communication”. The guest speaker was Mr. Deepak Pawar.
  • A Guest Lecture for M.A II students was organized on Mass Media Research, the guest speaker was Mr, Ravi, Professor, EFLU.
  • The Department of Mass Communication organised a guest lecture today for its final year B.A. students as part of their DSE, Public Relations. Guest Speaker, Dr. Ramu Suravajjula, Editor & Public Relations Office, ASCI, spoke on the 'Current & Future Status of the Public Relations' discipline on October 05, 2018. Organized a guest lecture on 28th September, 2018 for the first year Post Graduate students on the Basics of Acting, Difference between acting on the stage and acting in front of the Camera. The resource person is Mr. John Kottoly who is the professional theatre Artist and the Actor.
  • Organized a guest lecture on 18th September, 2018 for the second year Post Graduate students regarding the subject – Mass Media Research. The resource person was Dr. P. Ravi Kumar the faculty of Pendekanti Law College. His insightful and thought provoking lecture helped the students to prepare their own Research Proposals.
  • The Department of Mass Communication and Journalism organized a guest lecture on 12th October, 2018 for the second year Post Graduate students on Lifestyle Journalism. The resource person was Ms. Sangeetha Devi who is a senior Assistant Editor and special Correspondent with The Hindu, Hyderabad Edition.
  • The Department of Mass communication organised a guest lecture on October 12th for its B.A 2nd and MA 1st year students. Guest speaker, Mr. Raka Sudhakar, Output Editor, Bharat Today, spoke on the present and future status of the print and electronic media. He gave an insight into the vast scope of the two mediums and presented a comparison between them. His interactive approach and in-depth knowledge was appreciated by the students.
  • The Department of Mass Communication and Journalism organized a guest lecture on 12th
  • October, 2018 for the second year Post Graduate students on Lifestyle Journalism. The resource person was Mr. Sudhakar Reddy Udumula who is a senior Assistant Editor Times of India, Hyderabad.
  • The Department of Mass Communication went for a trip to North India with PG 1st and 2nd year students from 14th November to 23rd November, 2018. As part of the trip students visited the northern cities of Delhi, Shimla, Manali and Amritsar where they saw various tourist attractions such as the India Gate, Kufri, Hadima Temple, Rohtang Pass, Akshardham, Snow Point, Jallianwala Bagh, Golden Temple, Wagah Attari border, BBC Office, Parliament Museum and Studio. They were accompanied by Faculty Ms. Serah and Mr. Sridhar, Department of Mass Communication.
  • COVA (Voluntary Association)in collaboration with British Deputy High Commission, Hyderabad has organized a workshop on 'training Youth to Recognize and Counter Fake News', to our MA mass communication students on 13th December 2018. The workshop has enabled students to understand the dynamics of identifying fake news and how to decode it with practical sessions.
  • Mr. Akash Kolluru, Correspondent from India Today had addressed Mass Communication students of UG and PG on 'Reporting: Opportunities, Challenges and Risks', On 10th December 2018. The lecture has given better understanding of real world media Industry to the students.
  • A Guest lecture on photography was organized for MA mass communication 1st year and for Digital Photography Open Elective students was organized on 25th January 2019, by Mr. Rajesh Mandi, famous lifestyle photographer by the department to give practical exposure in learning better photography and make students understand the career opportunities available for freelance photographers. It was an interactive session
  • The Department of Mass Communication organised a guest lecture today for its students of M.A. Mass Communication. Guest Speaker, Mr. Babji Yana, former National Vice President, PRSI, Hyderabad Chapter, spoke on 'Public Relations in the Digital Age'. Using an interactive approach, he gave an enlightening insight into the topic. At the end of the lecture, the students posed questions, and thought they received a good exposure to the discipline.
  • Organized a Guest Lecture on “Historical overview of communication and on New world information and communication order” on August 24, 2018 for MA -II. The Resource person was Prof. B. Balaswamy -Chairperson of Board of Studies in Communication and Journalism from Osmania University.
  • Organized a Guest Lecture on “Historical overview of Media during Pre and Post Independence” on October 05, 2018 for BA-I. The Resource person was Dr. Uma Joseph, Head of the Department of History, St Francis College for women.
  • Organized a Guest Lecture on Five steps to Media studies in USA Delivered by Suheil Imtiaz, Edu.USA Advisor on June 26,2019 for BA II and BAIII
  • Organized a Guest Lecture on “Historical Overview of Press during Pre and Post Independence Day for BA I students on 7th August,2019. Dr. Uma Joseph, HoD of History dept., St. Francis College for women was the Resource Person.
  • Guest lecture on “'Overview of the Media Industry in South India/Telangana, was addressed by Mr. Raka Sudhakar Rao, a senior journalist, on 7th January 2020 for BA and MA mass communication students.
  • On 19th of August2019 , a guest lecture was arranged by Mr.Michael Monteiro Independent Photographer on the occasion of World photography day during 'Foto Expo- 2019'for BA and MA students
  • As part of social media day celebrations a guest lecuture on "Social Media and its influence " was arranged on June 21st 2019, the resource person was Mr.skarakadam Srinivas, Digital Market Expert.
  • Department of Mass Communication in association with Edu.USA,American Corner organized a session on "Five steps to Journalism/Media studies in the United states" for BA II and III years of Mass communication on June 21,2019. Mr. Suheil, Edu.USA Advisor, US Consulate was the Resource Person. The session enlightened students with respect to Education in USA.
  • The Department of Mass Communication organised a Guest Lecture on "Changing roles of Editorial staff and other media persons" on 28 Feb,2019 for it's BA I & II and PG I & II. Prof. K. Nageshwar from the Department of Mass Communication, Osmania university was the Resource Person. His lecture enlightened students to have a different outlook towards the Literature on hurry.
  • The Department of Mass Communication organized a guest lecture for BA III and M.A. I students as part of Short film production and videography subjects on 7th Feb,2019. The Resource person was Mr. Ramesh Samala, A Film Director. Using an interactive approach, He delivered his lecture on " Essentials of Film making". The limelight of the lecture was the Q & A part which enlightened students about the film industry and the aspects of film making.
  • The Department of Mass Communication organized a field trip for MA I students as part of "Development and Rural Communication" subject to Deccan Development Society, Zaheerabad on 12 Feb,2019. The field trip enlightened the students with regard to Community Media and its role in the society.
  • Organized a Guest Lecture for MA II on Media Management delivered by Prof. Satya Prakash, Associate professor, Department of Communication studies, University of Hyderabad on Feb 04, 2020.
  • Organised Workshop on an Interaction and Analysis of C/O Kancharapalem movie with Telugu Film Director Venkatesh Maha on 29th January 2020
